Didn't Work?

Help! My experiment didn't work.  What do I do?

Calm down! Its ok!

Lets assume that you chose to test the effects of fixatives on ink fading in sunlight, and you discovered that there was no difference in the fading rates.  Is your experiment a failure?  NO! Not at all.  You did discover something!  Even though you did not get the expected results, there were results.

Most of the experiments that scientists do end this way.  An experiment that does not work tells the scientist what doesn't work.  He or She can then narrow down the search for a method that will work.
